Access + Inclusion

“There is that smaller world which is the stage, and that larger stage which is the world.” – Isaac Goldberg.
Though we might not all see ourselves as performers on a theatre stage, we all have a role to play on the world stage, each and every day! Our Spotlight Seminars are opportunities to access skills and approaches used in theatre that allow leaders, teams, individuals and groups from all kinds of backgrounds to promote and exemplify inclusion in the workplace, at school and in the community. (They are also a great time to have a ton of fun!)
Are you preparing for a job interview? Presented a speech in front of your class or colleagues? Has your team been faced with a problem and asked to collectively come up with a solution, as quickly as possible? Are you a compassionate leader who wants to build people up (or want to become one?) If you answered “yes” to any of the questions, then you’re using lots of skills that we develop through theatre participation (probably without even realizing it!) Learn from our Stage Coaches the different ways in which they’ve used and adapted theatre skills in other areas of their lives, and join them “in the spotlight” as they welcome you to use colourful props and creative thoughts in our interactive and inclusive seminars.
We are grateful to have had the opportunity to share our Spotlight Seminars with the following community groups and organizations over the past several years:
- COLS (Central Ontario Leadership Seminars)
- Pathfinders unit – Milton, Ontario
- The Dance Ability Movement – Milton, Ontario (Summer Camp)
- Theatre in the Park (Summer Camp- Milton Youth Theatre Productions)
- The Special Friends Network – Milton, Ontario
Some of our accessibility for inclusion themes include:
- Using our senses to observe and communicate (an awareness of others and our surroundings).
- Thinking “outside the box” – problem-solving and an openness to collaborate.
- Be in the present moment, take on your role and have FUN!
- Leading and collaborating with flexibility, patience, and a willingness to adapt.
- Challenge us to “rewind and remind” ourselves of the value of play in learning and the ability to identify our strengths
- The Power of Positivity – How we help one another realize our potential through encouragement, support, understanding and kindness!
**Spotlight Seminars can be adapted to highlight a specific area of theatre or focus on an area of accessibility and inclusion – depending on your group or organization’s needs and interests. Seminars can vary in length. We would love to include YOU and share the amazing benefits of our theatre “world”!
