Don’t hesitate, decide to commit!

Commitment. This word leaves a bitter taste in many persons’ mouth. Whether it is commitment to your studies, a relationship, getting up to exercise, or even eating healthy – these all require some degree of commitment. In order to be successful at anything in life, you have to make the determination in your heart that you will commit – not halfheartedly or until things get a bit difficult you give up – but a long lasting, unwavering commitment to the end.

Usain Bolt, one of the most decorated athlete in track and field has proven to the world that with persistence and commitment, anything is possible. Usain often shares the story of wanting to be a soccer player and not a track athlete because the training was too difficult. Nevertheless, he felt as if being a track athlete was apart of his purpose in life. There were many bumps along the road to being branded as “The fastest man in the world.” There were many injuries he faced, negative criticism from his critics, accusations of cheating in his races, and many wondered the reason behind his huge success in the sports world. Commitment, grit, and hard work is his “secret”. On his instagram bio, he has boldly written: “Anything is possible I don’t think limits.”

In life, you will have to commit to something – it may be to a role, a project, a relationship, or even a dream; if you want to be successful in any area, you have to commit! There’s no going around it. Without a doubt, hard times come; difficult times may embrace us; we may want to give up and just throw the towel in. At times, we may ask ourselves, “Is this even worth it?” That’s up to you to decide. However, there are going to be times in life when your journey gets a little rocky – your boat starts to shake as if a storm is about to hit. In those times, your commitment will be tested and YOU have to make the decision to hang tight and not give up. YOU have to make up your mind to just do it and go for it because it’s a part of what needs to be done to achieve your goal(s). I’m not saying that it is always easy to stay committed, because oftentimes it’s not. But the fruit that you reap from the toiling of planting the seed, will be worth it in the end. The journey may be challenging, but choosing to commit to the process makes the taste of the success even sweeter and the aroma very pleasing.
